The 2026 Bucheon International Comics Festival ran on an advertised September 18 to 20 schedule. That festival weekend is over. A trip now should be planned around Korea Manhwa Museum's exhibitions, not an expectation of the same artist signings, market or cosplay competition.
There is a concrete reason for comics readers to consider the museum after the festival: its special exhibition Murim: The Forest of Martial Arts is listed through August 29, 2027. This update separates the expired festival from that continuing exhibition and gives a museum-focused route for visitors coming from Seoul.
Correct the old festival clock first
VISITKOREA's BICOF listing confirms the September 18 to 20 dates and the museum/Korea Manhwa Contents Agency venue. Its broad time field says 10:00 to 20:00.
However, Bucheon City's September 2 program gave general festival hours of 10:00 to 18:00, while the food zone continued to 20:00 on September 18 and 19. The previous article's single 20:00 closing time was too broad for planning individual activities.
Keep those times as historical context. They are not today's museum hours, and a surviving festival page is not evidence that its ticket or signing session can still be booked. This article does not announce a 2027 festival date or claim personal attendance at the 2026 event.
The exhibition that outlasts the festival
The museum's current Murim exhibition page lists September 18, 2026 to August 29, 2027, in the second special-exhibition room. It centres on Asura by Ryu Ki-woon and Moon Jung-hoo, the 2025 Bucheon Comics Awards grand-prize work.
The museum describes the exhibition through martial-arts fiction's questions of strength, prejudice and justice. For an overseas webtoon reader, the useful connection is between a work and the ideas behind its exhibition, rather than an assumption that 'comics museum' means only children's entertainment.
The official page is in Korean. It does not establish a full English audio guide or translated text for every display, so do not plan on reading the entire story in English there. Artwork and exhibition design may still interest a non-Korean reader, but the depth of textual interpretation available without Korean remains unverified.
Reach the museum, then buy the appropriate admission
The address is 1 Gilju-ro, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, and the Korean destination name is 한국만화박물관. The museum's directions identify Samsan Gymnasium Station, Line 7, exit 5. Follow the museum signs from that exit. This is not Bucheon Sports Complex, the football venue elsewhere in the city.
For an ordinary visitor, the current admission page lists a ₩5,000 general ticket. It also lists family tickets of ₩12,000 for three people and ₩16,000 for four. Ask the desk which category applies to your group; do not use Bucheon-resident discounts without the required proof.
Regular hours are 10:00 to 18:00, with admission ending at 17:00. Regular closures include Monday, January 1, and the Seollal/Chuseok holiday periods. A September 30 notice explicitly confirms opening on October 9, Hangeul Day. Holiday exceptions are date-specific, not a reason to ignore the usual Monday closure.
Start at the first-floor ticket/information desk. The museum identifies it as the place for wheelchair and stroller loans. Equipment availability is not guaranteed by that statement. For access or ticket questions, the published numbers are 032-310-3090 and 3091.
A route organised around reading interests
Based on the official floor directory, a useful sequence is:
- First floor: resolve admission and any access assistance before entering the exhibitions.
- Third floor: combine the special exhibition with the Korean-comics history gallery. The permanent-display description includes artists' working tools and material from different periods of Korean comics.
- Fourth floor: continue to the comics experience gallery if visual storytelling and interactive displays are your priority.
- Second floor: choose the reading rooms if you want time with books rather than another attraction. The directory distinguishes general, children's and digital reading areas.
This is an editorial sequence using the published floor layout, not a timed route tested on site. A reader interested in drawing tools can spend longer on the third floor and skip a screening. A family can shorten the history stop and prioritise the fourth-floor area. Neither needs to fill an entire day merely because the former title promised a one-day festival itinerary.
The museum prohibits food inside and restricts flash, tripod and commercial photography. Do not assume a photo zone authorises photographing every original artwork in the same way. Follow the specific display's instructions.
For someone whose only goal was to meet a named festival artist or watch GICOF competitors, this museum visit is a different activity. Keep that distinction when deciding whether the journey is worthwhile. The continuing exhibition supplies a verifiable destination; it cannot recreate a September festival session.
