A map loading successfully does not prove that your phone can call a Korean restaurant. Before buying a Korea eSIM, decide whether you need internet access alone, outgoing calls and texts, or a service that verifies your identity. Those are different requirements, even when the products all arrive as a QR code.
This comparison uses LG U+ as a documented example, not a claim that it is the cheapest or best carrier. Product details were checked on September 23, 2026. Apple's international-travel and Dual SIM instructions were updated on September 17, 2026. No network speed test or personal purchase was performed.

Start with one real task
Imagine arriving with a hotel reservation, a messaging app and a restaurant you may need to telephone. Write down which task would fail without ordinary cellular calling. An app-to-app conversation over internet data is useful, but it does not automatically let you dial any local number.
For someone whose arrangements are already confirmed and whose contacts use the same messaging service, a data plan may be sufficient. A traveler coordinating a late check-in by telephone should ask about outgoing voice service before paying. Someone trying to open a regulated account needs to check the account provider's identity requirements separately.
LG U+'s official eSIM page distinguishes Data from Data + Voice. The data option does not support outgoing calls or texts. Its FAQ also distinguishes supported reservation-app SMS functions under Voice/SMS service from identity verification for banking or government services, which is not supported.
Treat that last distinction as a purchasing boundary. A phone number is a way to reach you; it is not evidence that every Korean service will accept your identity. Ask the particular app what it requires instead of buying a more expensive package and hoping.

Three questions to send the seller
Ask whether your exact product makes outgoing domestic calls, whether it sends texts, and what verification must be completed before those functions work. Include your phone's model and country of purchase. Save the response with your order confirmation.
Do not describe the requirement merely as “a Korean number.” That leaves too much room for misunderstanding. State the action, such as calling an accommodation desk, and ask whether extra credit is needed. This question-based approach is our editorial recommendation based on the documented service distinctions.
Compatibility comes before price
An eSIM-capable phone still needs to work with the chosen carrier. Apple's travel documentation says an iPhone used with another carrier must be unlocked. It gives the check as Settings, General, About, then Carrier Lock. An unlocked device shows “No SIM Restrictions.”
LG U+'s product page lists device exclusions, including Google Pixel, Motorola and OPPO. Its general FAQ lists Pixel and OPPO but is less comprehensive. Because the two pages differ, obtain confirmation for the exact model rather than treating the shorter list as permission. These are that operator's stated limits, not a claim that those brands cannot use eSIM anywhere.
A practical pre-purchase test is to gather the model name, regional variant, lock status and operating-system version in one note. Send only the information support needs through the official channel. An EID indicates eSIM hardware, but it does not settle all carrier compatibility questions.
If your handset cannot use the selected eSIM, compare a supported physical SIM, your home carrier's roaming offer, or a rented pocket Wi-Fi device. LG U+'s FAQ describes SIM and Wi-Fi alternatives. A shared hotspot also creates a practical dependency: the person carrying it must remain nearby and keep it charged.
Install carefully, then test outside Wi-Fi
Installation and service use are not interchangeable steps. LG U+'s product page states a 60-day activation window after purchase, no refund after payment for the data eSIM, and no reissue once installed. Its displayed activation description refers to first data use. Read the instructions delivered with your exact order before scanning anything, especially if you are buying well ahead of departure.
Keep the QR code private. It is an installation credential, not a souvenir to post with your itinerary. Use the seller's official instructions and retain the order number somewhere you can reach if the phone is temporarily offline. Do not upload your passport to an unsolicited support chat.
A controlled arrival check
First, connect through a trusted internet connection and follow the carrier's installation instructions. Second, give each line a distinct label, such as Home and Korea. Third, select the intended cellular-data line and review the home line's roaming settings. Finally, turn Wi-Fi off briefly and load a simple page to test cellular data.
Apple's Dual SIM documentation explains line labels, default numbers and choosing a data line. It also explains that cellular-data switching has consequences during calls. Leaving a second line enabled can still create home-carrier charges, so check your own tariff rather than assuming that using a local data line makes every home-line action free.
If you bought voice service, test the specific function with an agreed contact, not an emergency number. Record whether internet access and outgoing calling each worked. One successful test should not stand in for both.

Recover a connection without deleting the profile
A failed connection deserves a diagnosis before a reinstall. Check which line is selected, whether the plan is ready to use, and whether the handset meets the carrier's requirements. Apple's troubleshooting page, updated September 17, 2026, recommends checking the plans and contacting the carrier when the problem persists.
Avoid repeatedly deleting and scanning the profile. The operator's no-reissue warning makes that an especially poor first experiment. Send support the error wording, approximate time, device model and order reference. Exclude passwords and full payment-card details.
LG U+ publishes airport support locations. For Incheon Terminal 1, its page lists Gate F service around the clock and Gate A from 06:00 to 22:00. Those are T1-specific listings checked on September 23, not a promise for every airport desk. Check the terminal relevant to your flight.

Compare the total decision, not a headline rate
No fixed price ranking is offered here because plan length, radio option and promotions change the checkout result. Compare the actual total for your stay, required voice credit, refund terms and support availability. Save the final product description before payment.
For a short visit with an unsupported phone, a slightly more expensive workable alternative can be the rational choice. For a supported phone used mainly for maps and messaging, paying for unused calling may add little. The decision turns on what must work when you leave the airport.
Questions travelers ask before scanning
Can internet calling replace a voice package?
It can replace some conversations when both parties can use the relevant app. Do not assume it can reach every ordinary telephone number. Check the service and the contact you need.
Does a tourist eSIM verify my identity for Korean banking?
The LG U+ tourist service reviewed here does not support banking or government identity verification. Requirements for other products or residents must be checked separately.
Can I keep my home line active?
Supported Dual SIM arrangements allow that, but functions and possible roaming charges depend on your device and home plan. Review both lines before making a call.
What should I do if the QR code fails?
Keep the profile and order information intact, note the exact error, and contact official support. Do not assume that deleting an installed eSIM makes the code reusable.
