At Gimyujeong Rail Bike (김유정 레일바이크) in Chuncheon, a former railway becomes a shared outing through open countryside and tunnels designed with bubbles, star-like lights and music. After the pedaling comes a different view of the route: a seated ride beside the Bukhangang River on the Romance Train. The attraction combines 6 km on a rail bike, 2.5 km on the train and a free shuttle back to the start. The advertised 8.5 km is not all cycling. Gangchon Rail Park course description.

Countryside outside, a different scene inside each tunnel
The scenery and the designed tunnel effects are both part of the attraction. The Korea Tourism Organization describes mountains, fields and river views along a track that is mostly downhill. You still pedal: “mostly downhill” does not mean every rider will find the six kilometers effortless.
The operator names four tunnel themes: Pink Muhly, Bubble, Milky Way and Club. It describes floating bubbles, star-like lighting, and club-style lights with music. Tunnel descriptions.
That combination helps explain who might choose this outing. For a couple or a family wanting to do something together, the shared bike and changing tunnel scenes offer more participation than a scenic walk. If your priority is quiet scenery or stopping for photographs whenever you choose, the fixed route and light-and-music sections may suit you less. The river-view train leg is part of the same scheduled outing, not a separate free-paced visit.
At the departure plaza, a wall of giant books provides a photo stop. Allow extra time for it before boarding rather than trying to fit it into the required check-in period. The operator also lists a book cafe, but a cafe stop is optional; the ride is the reason to build your day around this location. Station facilities.
From the bike to the train, then back to Gimyujeong
The changes of vehicle are worth understanding before you set off:
- Pedal 6 km from Gimyujeong to the midpoint rest stop. The themed tunnels belong to this section.
- Leave the bike and board the Romance Train for 2.5 km. The midpoint overlooks the Bukhangang, and the train continues the river scenery without more pedaling.
- After leaving the train, follow the blue lines on the ground and staff directions to the shuttle boarding area. The free bus takes you back to Gimyujeong, where your car or local-train journey can begin again.
You do not cycle back along the same track. Nor does the train itself complete your return to Gimyujeong: keep the shuttle in your plan. Operator's route and transfer instructions, KTO description.
For the full circuit, a Korean visitor reported about 90 minutes, including the shuttle, after an April 7, 2026 visit. That is one observation, not an operator-guaranteed return time. Our planning suggestion is to leave at least two hours after your booked departure, in addition to arriving early. This is a buffer, not a promised finish: a 13:30 ride and a non-flexible 15:00 onward departure would leave no margin even if your circuit matched that visitor's experience.
Choose the bike and departure for your group
Standard prices are per bike, not per person:
| Your party | Bike to reserve | Standard price |
|---|---|---|
| Two people | One two-seat bike | KRW 40,000 |
| Three people | One four-seat bike | KRW 56,000 |
| Four people | One four-seat bike | KRW 56,000 |
A family of three therefore needs the four-seater and pays the same bike price as a party of four. Operator's rates.
For October, the regular departures are 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30 and 17:30. The operator also lists 18:30 on weekends and public holidays from May through October. Choose a published departure, then check availability for your date. Hours and rates checked October 12, 2026.
This standard-bike plan covers parties of two to four, with everyone at least 36 months old and able to use a regular seat. For younger children, ask the operator before buying: its rate page permits an infant waiver while its reservation guide says infants are not permitted. The published instructions do not resolve that conflict. Wheelchair users have a separate Donghaeng Bike option requiring telephone booking at 033-245-1000, with its own equipment-fit and boarding conditions. The return shuttle can carry a wheelchair only when folded, so discuss the return arrangement as well as bike fit when booking. Korean operating information, reservation guide.
Book the Gimyujeong course and arrive at the right station
On the official English reservation page, choose Gimyujeong. Gyeonggang and Gapyeong are separate courses, so “Gangchon Rail Park” alone is not enough to identify the ticket. For an October visit, select the booking option for May 2026 onward. The English ticket page was accessible during research; acceptance of overseas cards and non-Korean phone numbers was not tested.
Complete payment and save the confirmed reservation number for ticket collection. Same-day online booking is unavailable; walk-up tickets depend on unsold or cancelled bikes. If you are arranging a day around a particular departure, secure the reservation first. Booking instructions.
For local-train access, your destination is Gimyujeong Station (김유정역). The operator describes the Gyeongchun Line journey from Sangbong to Gimyujeong, followed by approximately three minutes on foot. Drivers should navigate to Gangchon Rail Park Gimyujeong Station, at 1383 Gimyujeong-ro, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do. The tourism listing identifies free parking. Operator directions, KTO visitor information.
Be at the boarding point at least 20 minutes before departure. For a 13:30 reservation, that means 13:10, with ticket collection already allowed for. Reaching the railway station at 13:10 is too tight: plan the walk and any ticket queue before that deadline. Boarding instructions.
Rain and refunds: decide before the cutoff
Light rain does not automatically cancel the ride. Severe weather can interrupt service; if the operator cancels for weather, its Korean FAQ states a full refund. Choosing not to ride in rain follows the normal cancellation rules. Weather FAQ.
For direct bookings, the Korean refund schedule lists:
| When you cancel | Refund |
|---|---|
| By 23:59 on the day the booking is completed, regardless of ride date | 100% |
| Otherwise, three or more days before the ride | 100% |
| Two days before | 80% |
| One day before | 70% |
| On the ride date, at least one hour before departure | 50% |
| After that cutoff, or for a no-show | None |
The one-hour cutoff is before departure. The English page's ambiguous “within 1 hour” wording should not be read as allowing cancellation in the final hour. For a reseller purchase, cancel through that seller under the terms of your booking. Operator FAQ.
