You open the Haeundae Sky Capsule booking page, tap a Saturday in November, and every half-hour entry slot says 매진 (maejin), sold out. That's not a glitch. On the morning of October 31, the Mipo-departure calendar had open slots on only two days between November 1 and 29. The fix is to work the release schedule, check the other station's calendar, and plan your ride back before you pay, because the capsule only goes one way.

Read the calendar the way the operator built it
Online tickets drop in weekly batches. Every Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. Korea time, the official booking page opens one full Monday-to-Sunday week, four weeks out. Run that rule forward from today and you get this:
- Tuesday, November 3 opens November 30 to December 6
- Tuesday, November 10 opens December 7 to 13
- Tuesday, November 17 opens December 14 to 20
- Tuesday, November 24 opens December 21 to 27
If you're in the US, 7:00 a.m. Tuesday in Seoul lands on Monday afternoon or evening at home, so set the alarm for the right day. As of October 31 the calendar runs through Sunday, November 29, which matches the rule.
Each slot, called a 회차 (hoecha, session), is a 30-minute entry window, not a departure time. A 2:00 to 2:30 ticket means you walk in any time in that half hour and board in line. Show up more than 30 minutes late and staff can refuse you with no refund. In November through February the first window opens at 8:30 a.m. and the last one is 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., 19 windows a day.
Here's the part that's easy to miss: Mipo and Cheongsapo are separate calendars. On the same October 31 check, Mipo departures had openings only on November 3 and 28. Cheongsapo departures had openings on seven dates, including 11 of 19 windows on Tuesday, November 3. If the Mipo side is gone, open the Cheongsapo side before you give up.
Two more booking details catch visitors. Online sales stop four hours before a slot; inside that window you can only buy at the 매표소 (maepyoso, ticket office). The office also sells a small batch of same-day tickets first-come, first-served, and the operator says those can run out early. The online form is also built around a Korean mobile number starting with 010, and the ticket arrives by KakaoTalk or email, so type your email carefully.
The capsule goes one way, so plan the ride back
The Sky Capsule (스카이캡슐) covers 2.0 km between Mipo Station (미포정거장) and Cheongsapo Station (청사포정거장) in about 30 minutes, one direction per ticket. Book Mipo and you end up in Cheongsapo, a small harbor village about halfway along the line, with no capsule ticket home.

The usual way back is the Beach Train (해변열차, haebyeon yeolcha), which runs Mipo to Cheongsapo to Songjeong in about 25 minutes end to end. One catch: at Cheongsapo and the small stops, boarding is first-come, first-served, and passengers with a timed booking from the end stations get on first. Seats aren't assigned, so you might stand. On a busy afternoon, budget extra time.
The official fare page makes the money side easy to compare. A capsule is priced per car: 50,000 won for two, 55,000 for three, 60,000 for four. A one-ride train ticket costs 8,000 won from Cheongsapo or 10,000 won from Mipo or Songjeong. The package of a one-way capsule plus an all-stations train pass (모든역 탑승권) is 73,000 won for two, 92,000 for three and 111,000 for four.
- Capsule to Cheongsapo, train straight back: 66,000 won for two, 79,000 for three, 92,000 for four
- Train out from Mipo, capsule back: 70,000 won for two, 85,000 for three, 100,000 for four
- Package: worth it only if you also want Songjeong or the skywalk stops, since buying the capsule and two all-stations passes separately costs 82,000 won for two
For most people, the second plan is the one to book. You ride the train out on a reserved departure from Mipo, take the capsule back, and finish at Mipo, near Haeundae Beach, with no first-come wait at Cheongsapo. It also lets you use the Cheongsapo calendar, which had more open slots. Leave a gap between the two bookings. The train covers the 2 km to Cheongsapo in under 10 minutes at its 15 km/h average, but you still have to walk in during your capsule window.
Getting to Mipo Station takes about 15 minutes on foot from Exit 7 of Jung-dong Station (중동역) on Busan Metro Line 2, or about 10 minutes from the Mipo bus stop. The station directions page lists the bus numbers. If your plan ends at Songjeong instead, the Donghae Line's Songjeong Station is about 12 minutes from Exit 2. Carry-on-size bags can ride, but there are lockers at Mipo, Cheongsapo and Songjeong.
The November clock, and the dates that break it
From November to February, the capsule runs 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the Beach Train leaves Mipo and Songjeong from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., about every 20 minutes. Since a 5:30 capsule window can put you in Cheongsapo between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. or later, book no later than the 4:30 window if you still need a train afterward. Weekend and holiday capsules can run behind schedule, and a late capsule can mean missing the last train.
Two dates this month don't follow that pattern:
- Saturday, November 7: for the Busan Fireworks Festival, the operator's notice extends the last trains from both ends to 8:00 p.m. and adds capsule windows up to 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. Online capsule slots for that night already showed sold out on both calendars.
- November 16 to 19: the booking calendars show no capsule sessions after the 11:30 a.m. window on Monday, November 16, none on the 17th and 18th, and a 1:00 p.m. start on Thursday, November 19. Beach Train dates stay open. No reason was posted, so call 051-701-5548 before building a day around those dates.
Cancellations follow a fixed scale: full refund up to three days before boarding, 20% deducted two days before, 30% one day before and 50% on the day. You can't change a booking's time, only cancel and rebook. So book the window you actually want on release day; moving it later costs a cancellation fee once you're inside three days.
Rain doesn't stop either ride, though heavy storms and typhoons can. The Beach Train keeps running even when the capsule is fully booked, and on October 31, nearly all 30 daily departures from Mipo were still open on the November dates sampled (the 4th, 14th, 21st and 28th). It follows the same coastline, so if the capsule doesn't work out, a train-only day still covers the route.
Your next step: pick your date, then check the Cheongsapo-departure calendar before the Mipo one. If both are full, set an alarm for the Tuesday 7:00 a.m. release.
