You can visit two recognizable Lovely Runner locations in one compact Suwon outing: Hwahongmun Gate, associated with Sun-jae's confession, and nearby Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion, linked to the bicycle lesson. The Korea Tourism Organization identifies both in its official filming-location walk. This route concentrates on those public landmarks, with water, fortress architecture and a pond view to enjoy even if your travel companion has never watched the drama.
Allow 60 to 90 minutes on site, plus travel to Suwon. That is a planning allowance for photographs and pauses, not a measured walking time. The guide is based on official information checked October 11, 2026, rather than a personal visit.

Start beside the watergate
Use 화홍문 (Hwahongmun) as your destination, rather than the broad search term “Hwaseong.” Its address is 377 Suwoncheon-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon (수원시 팔달구 수원천로 377). The gate spans Suwoncheon Stream with seven stone arches; the larger central opening helps regulate the water flow. KTO's gate listing connects the confession scene specifically to the bridge in front of the gate.
Begin by finding that bridge and looking back toward the watergate. You do not need to climb the entire fortress circuit to recognize the setting. Keep the crossing clear when taking photographs: use an open standing place beside the pedestrian flow instead of stopping a group across the bridge. The published location association does not identify an exact camera position.
Nearby Hwahong Sarangchae (화홍사랑채), at the same street address, provides visitor information and toilets. Entry is free; listed hours are 10:00-22:00, closed Mondays. The Monday closure applies to this facility. Facility information.
Continue east to the pavilion and pond
From Hwahongmun, continue toward 방화수류정 (Banghwasuryujeong), on the hill immediately to the east. Save its separate address: 44-6 Suwoncheon-ro 392beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon (수원시 팔달구 수원천로392번길 44-6). The official pavilion listing places it east of the gate and identifies its alternative name, Dongbukgangnu.
KTO associates this setting with Sun-jae teaching Sol to ride a bicycle. Treat that as a reason to look at the landscape, not an instruction to cycle through pedestrians or reproduce the stunt. Continue toward Yongyeon (용연), the pond beside the pavilion, for a view that combines water and the raised building. If you are comfortable with the ascent and the path is open, go up to the pavilion for a different perspective. Otherwise, make the pond-side view your endpoint.

A simple pacing plan is 15 to 20 minutes around the gate, followed by 30 to 45 minutes moving to and looking around the pavilion and pond. Keep the remainder for orientation and the walk back. These are suggested allowances, not official tour durations. Return toward Hwahongmun along the public route you used; this keeps a short outing from becoming an accidental full-wall hike.
The hill is a real part of this choice. This guide does not establish a continuous step-free route. If slopes or steps are a concern, ask at the information facility before leaving the gate area, and keep the visit there if a suitable connection cannot be confirmed.
Choose daylight and distinguish the tickets
The ordinary outdoor visit is free. Suwon Cultural Foundation describes the fortress as open year-round, with night viewing possible. KTO lists the pavilion as free and open 24 hours, but its separate Hwahongmun page gives 09:00-18:00 in March-October and 09:00-17:00 in November-February.
For this first visit, aim for 10:00-16:00. That suggested window fits the narrower published daytime hours. General access to outdoor grounds should not be read as a promise that every pavilion, stairway or visitor facility is accessible all night. Follow barriers and local instructions.
Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is a separate destination. Its ordinary adult individual admission is KRW 2,000 on the foundation's current page. You do not need that palace ticket for this gate-and-pond walk. Transport, food and any additional paid attraction remain separate expenses; no advance attraction booking is needed for the ordinary public-landmark route.
There is a date-specific complication at verification: the organizer schedules the Seonyumong water performance at Yongyeon from October 5 to 11, 2026, 19:00-20:00. An October 11 visitor should expect an event setting rather than assume an unrestricted quiet pond visit. The official program does not establish every setup barrier or daytime closure. If access is restricted, keep to the permitted gate area and leave the pond for another visit.
Reach the start and plan the return
From Suwon Station, the foundation's published approach is Exit 4, near Novotel, then bus 11 or 13 to Janganmun / Suwon Traditional Culture Center (장안문·수원전통문화관). It gives an approximately three-minute walk from that stop to Hwahong Sarangchae. Confirm direction and current stop signage before boarding.
For the return, walk back toward the same named stop area and locate the service toward 수원역 (Suwon Station). Do not automatically wait on the arrival side. A taxi to Suwon Station is an alternative if the bus connection is inconvenient; this guide does not quote an unverified fare or journey time. Hwahong Sarangchae has no parking, so it should not be used as a guaranteed parking destination.
Add Sol's house only if that is your priority
The two-landmark walk does not include every Suwon filming site. KTO's November 20, 2024 feature identifies Mong Ted, 14 Hwaseomun-ro 48beon-gil, as Sol's house location and says Sun-jae's house across the lane is a private residence. That is a separate fan detour, with no permission to enter the private house. Current cafe hours and prices are not established here, so it is not an anchor for the timed route.
For a first Suwon visit, the gate and pond are enough to connect a remembered scene with a place you can appreciate independently. In heavy rain, or when the hill is slippery, postpone the ascent rather than seeking a shortcut. A clear view of the watergate is a better ending than a rushed attempt to collect every filming pin.
